TERRY LAW, the president and founder of World Compassion/Terry Law Ministries, was born in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, a backwater town on the Canadian prairie. His father, a rural preacher, hunted to provide food for his family.
At an early age, Terry was aware that God was calling him to an international preaching ministry. He fought that call during his teen years and planned instead to study law to become involved in Canadian politics. Through a dramatic conversion, Terry was brought up short by the Lord, and he found himself a few days later in Bible school, preparing for full-time ministry.
Terry, along with his college friend Larry Dalton, founded Living Sound, a contemporary Christian Music Group in 1969. They began to travel across the United States and Canada in preparation for their first overseas ministry trip to Africa in 1970. It was during that mission trip that God spoke to Terry in an audible way, “I am going to send you to minister to the closed nations of the world. You will do things there that most men would believe impossible. If you trust Me and be obedient, I will protect you.” From that day to this, Terry and his team have walked by those marching orders.
Terry has been ministering the Gospel in dangerous places for 35 years and has preached in over 60 nations, including countries like Russia and the Republics of the former Soviet Union, China, India, Vietnam, Laos, Burma, Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and most recently Iraq. Terry Law is one of America’s foremost speakers on praise and worship and is in demand as a missionary statesman throughout the world.
In 1990, while passing out Bibles in Russia, Terry heard a woman declare, “We can’t eat your Bibles!” This resonated deeply in Terry, and that same year “World Compassion” was formed to help meet the needs of people who were not only in need of the Gospel, but also in need of food and medicine. World Compassion/Terry Law Ministries has moved to meet these needs, and many lives have been changed as a result. Over 600 tons of food have been distributed since World Compassion began.
Since September 11, 2001, World Compassion Terry Law Ministries has focused on Afghanistan and Iraq. Through the delivery of humanitarian aid, God has opened doors for Terry to go into refugee camps to light a candle of hope through the ministering of the Gospel in the darkness of postwar Afghanistan. A church plant in Afghanistan is already ministering to more than 500 people.
Terry and his organization, World Compassion, have teamed with International Health Services Foundation to provide a medical clinic for Kabul University, through which medical care, along with prayer, is offered to the students and faculty of the premier school in the country. World Compassion is also building homes for widows in Kabul, as well as helping to provide training for widows and their families in sewing, print-making, gardening, and English language acquisition.
Doors have also opened in Iraq through humanitarian aid and Christian literature; many lives are being changed in this new harvest field. God has enabled Terry to establish connections at the highest levels of government in these countries and in our own country, as well. Plans are being laid for the planting of two Signs and Wonders churches in northern and central Iraq.
In addition, Terry is the author of several best selling books including:
The Power of Praise and Worship; Praise Releases Faith; How to Enter the Presence of God; and his most recent book,
The Truth About Angels.
Terry resides in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
